In Interludes and Transitions - Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2026
Titled « In Interludes and Transitions », the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2026 considers the world as a multitude of processions. Located in the historic site of Diriyah, it proposes to rethink the world in intense motion, through processions that entangle humans with planetary, multi-species, spiritual, and technological currents. For this edition, the Formafantasma office has developed four major scenographic partitions within the five galleries, in collaboration with artistic directors Sabih Ahmed and Nora Razian. Each sequence has its own unique mood and features interior and exterior lighting that delicately reveals the works without overpowering them. The lighting is sincere and reinforces the presence and uniqueness of the artists’ work while creating a specific atmosphere. Beyond the exhibition halls, the Biennale spreads throughout the JAX neighbourhood through commissions. Public spaces, galleries, art centres and workshops resonate with each other and offer even more new and unique lighting situations. In total, more than 1,500 carefully installed spotlights, either cut-off or focusable, were used for this large-scale project, which took more than a month to set up.
